Our Goals

In 2010, 100 Families Alameda County: Art and Social Change became a significant program of the Alameda County Arts Commission. The goal of 100 Families Alameda County is to enliven, celebrate and strengthen the power and health of families and their communities through the inspiring and transformative process of making art. This program brings together diverse and intergenerational families with the purpose of enhancing the well-being of the family unit. Through the collective experience of creating art together, the family circle is nurtured while families also build relationships with their neighbors and strengthen the larger community. The program illustrates how the arts and creativity are an essential part of Alameda County’s successful and thriving community and contributes to an overarching vision to make Alameda County one of the best counties in which to live, work, and do business. Celebrating families, helping neighbors feel connected to one another, and fostering safe neighborhoods and thriving communities, the program is conducted through an innovative and strategic collaboration with a diverse group of partners.

100 Families Alameda County is committed to honoring the legacy of the 100 Families program. Each project will include diverse and intergenerational families participating in a series of visual and/or performing arts workshops led by local, community-engaged teaching artists; opportunities for group engagement and conversation; communal meals; and a culminating event that celebrates the accomplishments of the families and their communities.
